Nestled on the site of the former village Market House, this beautifully preserved workshop is a rare piece of the area’s heritage, showcasing traditional craftsmanship that has stood the test of time.
The hearths
The traditional coal forges are a cornerstone of blacksmithing, embodying centuries of craftsmanship and utility. Powered by coal or coke, these forges consist of a robust firepot, a tuyere for airflow, and a chimney to direct smoke away. The forge’s design allows precise control over the fire’s intensity, enabling blacksmiths to achieve the perfect temperature for heating, shaping, and tempering metal. Revered for its ability to reach high, consistent heats, the coal forge is ideal for intricate work, from crafting tools to ornamental ironwork.
